Evolution of my RZ500
I've had this bike since 1997. It goes though periods
where I don't do much with it or to it. I'll start
with how it is currently setup, including some details about the work done to
it. It is a 1984 model.
Current Setup:
Front suspension 1994 Suzuki GSXR USD forks and wheel.
Includes brakes, triple clamps and clip-ons.
The steering stem is a stock unit welded up and turned down to fit the gixxer clamps.Rear suspension is a FOX shock, ATR ride-height, ZX1100 swing arm, gixxer 750 wheel.
The brake is a Grimeca. The brackets and spacers are made out of aluminum.
The Grimeca was too narrow to fit over the gixxer rotor, so it has an aluminum spacer
between the caliper halves.
Brake fluid is managed by the stock master cylinder and a braided steel line.Four Mikuni VM28 flatslide carbs handle the incoming side of the engine.
The stock oil injection was maintained for simplicity.
Filtration provided by individual K&N ovals.Exhaust is handled by a set of Nikon pipes.
1985 CDI box with Accel Super coils.
I've heard low opinions of the Accels, but they work better than what I had and
fit nicely in the space once occupied by the airboxBodywork by Airtech, still gel-coat white.
Seat by Corbin.

ATR Ride Height
With the
hybrid rear suspension, I found that the bike just did not have the right
attitude.
Specifically,
the bike sat too low in the rear, which encouraged the bike to tend to fall
into a turn.
The ATR kit installation is pretty straight forward, especially if you've got
friends whose garage and fridge
are better
stocked than your own. It was clear right away that there was a huge gain
with the ATR kit
The bike now handles closer to expectations. The current tires came with
the wheels and are pretty beat.
New tires
should help exercise the last to the handling demons

Major engine rebuild (it runs fine,
